The day started without any drama – smooth departure around 8:15AM or so after breakfast. Scott and Tom had a meeting at 10AM, so we decided to stop for this on the way somewhere with good cellular service – and that turned out to be Dunnellon . Nice town with marked on-street parking, and a life-size Blues Brothers statue.
After the meeting Scott left Khan to make a confidential phone call, which was ending as he saw Tom jogging rapidly down the street. While Tom is generally fit and eats healthy food, this is faster than Scott had ever seen Tom move, so he knew something was wrong.
Despite the fact that we were in a marked spot, an unfortunate 65-year-old gentleman from upstate New York was driving his pickup and avoiding a truck in the other direction. He clipped the driver’s side mirror on the parked Khan and knocked the cover off, though doing surprisingly little other damage.
He stopped, returned, and we exchanged copious documentation. His wife helpfully reminded him – in front of us – that she told him he was too close to our RV as he passed. The repair is ongoing, and that is a story that is likely to start our next trip blog…
