Made it to MATE

Thursday and Friday were consumed by Judging responsibilities – no traveling or sightseeing, but interesting enough to chronical in our blog.

Anthony had by far the easiest judging responsibilities.  He only had work to do Friday morning, with a briefing then judging posters that each team had to produce about their project of building an ROV and competing at MATE.

Tom had the next most difficult task.  He and his co-judge (a nice very young lady Anthony’s age attending Cal Poly) judged 45 minute engineering presentations with Q&A and scoring time.  These occurred Thursday and Friday.

Scott had by far the most challenging assignment.  He and his co-judge (a very energetic and meticulous young man from Berkeley ) had a long half day Thursday and a very long day Friday judging the robots in the indoor pool at the local High School.  The high temperatures and humidity, and long time standing, challenged Scott’s arthritic knees and somewhat limited stamina, but he pulled through.

As always, it is impressive to see the caliber of the participants and their ROV designs. There is hope for the future.
