Rocky Mountain High

Most of the judging activities were over except for 3 more hours of pool competition on Saturday morning – the “collaborative” bonus round for all teams.  Another three hours in the pool for Scott.  However, since the teams were working together somewhat rather than working on complicated scoring missions against the clock, this was a lot more fun.

After lunch, Scott decided that the mandatory judges meeting to award special titles to teams and individuals was optional for the VideoRay team, so we skipped out and took the jeep to the nearest off-road trails Tom could find in his research.  Both started out easy (the first had several miles paved since Tom’s research was written,) and then got tougher.  In both, we saw trucks pulling trailers loaded with off-road 4×4 ATVs unload, which should have been a clue that our Wrangler (Polo) with it’s highway tires, would be outclassed.  In each case Scott declared that he had run out of guts, and we turned around before things got out of hand …

The bright high-altitude sun was a concern, so we both slathered on suntan lotion and left the top up but removed the side curtains and rolled down our windows.  It was fun, and we captured breathtaking mountain views while not getting stuck or rolling down a mountain sideways.  A very successful day.

Tomorrow we drop Khan and Polo off at Mountain View RV & Boat Storage.  We have a bit of gray and black water in our tanks, but the storage place has a dump station.  Should be easy to drop the stuff, grab our bags e-hail an Uber, and head to the airport to make our flight for home, which departs shortly after noon.
