Bikes and Boats

Today was fun all around.  After breakfast with the Phillips, Tom and Scott left for a bike ride along the shorefront in Duluth.  The inline-skating and roller-skiing marathon was going on in downtown Duluth, with many roads closed for the world’s largest in-line skating marathon.  Our bike path paralleled much of the race, so we got a chance to watch participants zoom by at roughly the speed of our electron-assisted bicycles.

The route also paralleled the North Shore Scenic Railroad. and we were treated to a passing excursion.

After our 14 mile ride, we boarded Dave’s 1987 Bayliner for a quick trip to lunch across from the massive Octoberfest venue for in-line skaters (many of whom were riding around the hotel we ate at still shod in skates.)

After lunch we rode the boat to Park Point, Minnesota with Scott captaining most of the way and not hitting anything.  We parked the boat near the shore and waded onto the point, put our shoes back on, then walked part of the Park Point Nature Trail before returning to the boat.  We then motored back from the other side of the point, under the Aerial Lift Bridge Scott and Tom had walked their bikes over, then back to the marina.

When we returned to the Phillips, Scott introduced Nancy and Krista to the Instapot, which we had planned on using to cook a Pork Roast that we bought at Walmart on the first day of our journey.  It was time to cook it, and luckily Krista had all the ingredients we needed to follow the recipe https://thesaltymarshmallow.com/wprm_print/4341  correctly.  All agreed it was delicious.

Early bedtime was planned for more excitement tomorrow.
