The “Other” Wawa

Today was more movin’ on down the Trans-Canada Highway.  Our first stop was the Winnie the Pooh memorial, where we read a plaque that explained the connection between White River and Winnie the Pooh.  Took the requisite selfie.

Just a little further down the highway was the “other” Wawa – Wawa, ON.  Also named for the Goose, there is a large goose monument and lots of stories about the town of Wawa.  Amazingly, not one discussed or compared it to Wawa, PA, though the nice couple in the gift shop did admit that they had heard of something in Pennsylvania that was a convenience store.  There was no official acknowledgement in any sign here, and on the web it is difficult to find anything comparing the two locations.  Took the requisite selfie.

Our next stop was the Magpie Scenic High Falls just down the road from Wawa, with a kinda rough access road but a very pretty pavilion with lots of interesting informative signs – and we had the whole place to ourselves when we stopped!  We microwaved some leftovers and ate in the pavilion. However, several pesky tourists showed up just as we were about to leave and parked in the way of our turn around. Scott, violated his “I don’t talk to people” mantra and politely asked them to move.

Another spectacular lunchtime view

The next stop on our tour was the Agawa Pictograph Site , but there was a sign that said it was closed.  So in consolation, we drove on to Sault St. Marie, CA. Along the way there were several rest areas with beautiful scenery including arguably some of the the clearest and bluest water in North America.

On the road (when we had cellular internet,) we investigated things to do there – the last stop on the Canadian side of the Lake Superior Circle tour.  Turns out there is lots to do, so we decided we would spend an extra day with two nights in the same place.  Scott reserved a boat tour of the Soo Locks for tomorrow, and Tom found a bike path.

Also – Sault St. Marie has a Walmart!  After pulling into the local KOA , we decided to make a Walmart run for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a replacement doormat, and groceries.  Then a restaurant meal, back to the campsite for blogging duties, then bed.
