Level Unlocked – Made it to San Diego

After an early meeting for Tom, we departed from Joshua Tree for our final campground this trip – Mission Bay RV Resort.  We still had not made a decision on where to store Khan for our next trip when Scott – reading the website – discovered that they had a storage plan at Mission Bay – for a bit more than three times the cheapest alternative, but the convenience – both for dropping the RV off and picking it up when we returned – was worth the extra cost.  We had already arranged with the VideoRay staff to store Polo in the office lot.  Our plan at this point is to start our next trip in May.

We only made one stop along the way – at Cabazon Dinosaurs, self proclaimed as the “Worlds Biggest Dinosaurs” in Cabazon, CA. We each posed with one of the two largest free-to-visit ones. They have additional “for a fee” exhibits, but we decided to pass on those.

After crossing some of the coastal mountains, we noticed the grass was a lot greener and there was still some flooding on the roads from recent rains – rare for Southern California.

Next, we decided to stop for fuel in Escondido. That turned out to be a bad idea. The first attempt at an Arco resulted in every single one of our credit and debit cards being declined. Leaving there and swearing never to stop at an Arco again, we circled around several blocks trying to find diesel for under $5/gal. That proved impossible, and we settled for a Shell station with a price of $5.29/gal.

We arrived at the campground, immediately ate lunch, then went to coordinate the RV storage and then on to the VideoRay office on Shelter Island to commune with our employees there.  Then dinner with Rob Cornick, back to Khan, and early bed as we prepared for a busy day tomorrow buttoning up for a three month – or so – stay in storage here.
