Nevada Bound

We started the day in Death Valley, the hottest place in the US/North America/Something like that, and headed to Lake Mead, clearly a close second like 98 degrees F.

One more stop at a Walmart in Pahrump, Nevada – where we escaped the taxes of California and Diesel dropped from $5.25 a gallon or so to $3.53.   As always, lots of what we bought were impulse food items, but we also bought an insulated bag cooler for tomorrow’s boat ride on the lake.

The drive into Lake Mead National Recreation Area had lots of spectacular views.  We changed elevation a lot as we climbed and descended mountains.

Colorful Patches

As with Death Valley, our campsite at Lake Mead RV Village Echo Bay was sorta deserted.  And cheap at $31/night.  And nice and clean if a bit run-down.  Tom chatted with the nice lady at the registration office who said that things have been going downhill for quite a while since the lake was so low.  It’s now up a bit, and she seemed optimistic.

If not for the Jeep and us, this place would be deserted
At one time, this would have been packed

After parking the RV, Tom took our bikes out to see what damage was caused but our rough ride in Saline Valley.  While several screws that held things like mirrors, lights, and fenders came out, Tom was able to find all the missing hardware and reinstall it.

After dinner, we took a short ride to the boat ramp.  Scott’s bike app rewarded him for his highest climb ever, though of course electrons did almost all the work.
