Hot Tub Will Have to Do

First a few photos from scenes along the way…

It rained at the campsite overnight, but we awoke to a dusting of snow on the mountains.
Low clouds lingered most of the morning.
A rugged looking range blanketed with low clouds (AKA fog).
The sunshine is winning!

Our first break for the day at a roadside overlook.
A nice view of the valley from the overlook.
Train tracks threading its way the mountains and rivers (from the overlook).
We passed several of these heavily eroded sand hills throughout the Canadian Rockies.

Today was a pretty relaxing day.  We are staying in the Cranbrook KOA – apparently Kampgrounds of America includes Canada.  This is associated with the St. Eugene Resort and Casino , and your campground fee allows you to use the resort facilities.

Individual sites were quite spacious and well equipped.

Our original plan was to stop here, then drive Polo to one of the many natural hot springs – the closest of which was an hour and ten minute drive from the campground.  However, among the many nice aspects of this campground – far and away the nicest of this trip – is hot tubs at the resort.  So, before driving to a natural hot spring we thought we would see what the resort offered – particularly, how hot the tubs were.

Enjoying the hot tub, Tom apparently more so than Scott.
Scott relaxing in “his own” hot tub. Can you find him?

We were impressed.  There was no one else around, and the spa offered two tubs (one of which was very close to optimal hotness,) a “dry” sauna, a steam room, and nice changing rooms and showers.  They also offer towels, though kinda bottom-end in size and softness.  Tom and Scott spent 20 minutes or so in the hotter tub – or “relaxation pools,” a few minutes in the sauna, then returned all ready for Tom to do work and Scott to take an Olympic nap.  We decided that we would save the gas and carbon emissions of a trip to a natural spring.

Almost three hours later Scott got up, barbecued the chicken we bought a day ago, and checked out the campground’s shower facilities.  They also look to be by far the best so far this trip – spacious, and with stuff like hair dryers!

After dinner, Tom went for a walk around the campsite to take some photos.
