Time to Relax and Smell the Roses, and Forget Yesterday’s Woes

Mike’s “Cabin” is two stories. The first floor is an 8-bay garage/shop with high ceilings and one of the bays is a large oversize one for a Camper/RV. Sitting above these garages is the cabin’s living quarters. It includes living room, kitchen, master bedroom an loft sleeping area and loft office as well as bathrooms. Mike did the design and built more than half of the structure. It is the perfect spot for luxury roughing it, situated on high flat plateau above the waterfront, which is also part of the property.

With no travel planned, the goal for today was to replace Scott’s phone, and fix as many problems with Khan and Polo as possible.

A minor repair of some trim that had pulled away. The pepper shaker and tape made a good clamp to hold the piece in place while the glue dried.

After breakfast, Scott and Tom headed into Port Angeles to the T-Mobile store for a new phone.  The store was pretty busy, but within a few minutes we were able to discuss our predicament with the store manager, who sold VideoRay an expensive (S24+ Ultra 256MB) phone to replace the soaked S21.  It was helpful that we had an “approved representative” of VideoRay – Tom Glebas – to give all the appropriate information to Jarek the manager.

In a impressively short time the phone was ready – sort of.  We were unable to get past the Microsoft Outlook security that is now part of VideoRay’s government requirements.  That would have to wait until later and a call with VideoRay’s IT manager.  But when we left, the phone was able to take and receive calls and text messages.

We then stopped by the nicest Tractor Supply store Scott had ever seen.  We were greeted at the entrance, and a nice (and new) employee helped Tom find all the materials we needed to fix the electrical, brake, and other problems with towing Polo.  When we returned to the cabin Tom and Mike started this process while Scott napped.

Upon waking from his nap, Scott started what will inevitably be a long and painful process of getting the new phone up to speed.   When the old phone is not trashed, or when the old phone was properly backed up (apparently not in this case,) this can be easier by doing a direct transfer.  But, since his old phone is inoperable, Scott plans to get through the process over the next few weeks.

While there were no roses to smell, dinner was an absolutely fantastic meal of outdoor grilled steaks, corn on the cob, and salad that Mike cooked and seasoned to perfection.  We ate outside with a view of the Salish sea from Mike’s rustic but fully equipped picnic spot – quite a memorable evening.

A delicious meal was had by all.

Tomorrow we finish a few repairs and move to the Chapman’s “downtown” home in Duvall, where we plan to leave Khan and Polo until our next trip.
